SUMMARY
- Indian students can claim a free year of Google AI Plus until December 31, 2026, then Rs 399 a month unless they cancel.
- Pick Spotify or Apple Music student plans at Rs 69 a month, and book IndiGo student fares for 10 kg extra baggage.
- Apply for GitHub’s Student Developer Pack, but check whether Copilot student sign-ups have reopened after the April 2026 pause.
Most students treat a college ID as a gate pass. This year it works more like a coupon book, and the biggest coupon has a deadline: December 31, 2026.
Google is giving eligible college students in India a full year of Google AI Plus at no cost. Google’s India blog says the plan includes Gemini Omni, 2x higher usage limits in Gemini and 400 GB of storage. The Logical Indian puts the regular price at Rs 399 a month.
That’s the headline. But the card in your wallet unlocks more than one AI plan, and some of the perks come with fine print that decides what you actually save.
The Google offer, and the part people skip
Redemption closes on December 31 and is subject to verification. Beebom reports that students can check eligibility and claim the plan on Google’s student page, one.google.com/ai-student, and that a valid payment method is needed to sign up.
Here’s the catch. Google’s own fine print says the plan starts charging automatically once the free period ends, unless you cancel first. Put a reminder in your phone for week 50. Otherwise your free year quietly turns into Rs 399 a month.
The offer comes with study tools too. Google describes study notebooks that use diagnostic quizzes to find gaps in what you know, and a Gemini Live feature that lets you talk through Deep Research reports. Students who want ad-free video can also get a Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundle at up to 70% off.
This isn’t Google’s first round. In July 2025, it offered Indian students a free year of the pricier AI Pro plan, with registration closing on September 15, 2025. The tier changes, and the clock always runs.
Why India’s students are suddenly worth so much
Google isn’t alone. Airtel and Perplexity announced a free year of Perplexity Pro for Airtel customers in July 2025, worth Rs 17,000. OpenAI then made ChatGPT Go free for a year in India from November 4, 2025. Jio and Google followed with 18 months of free AI Pro for eligible Jio users.
Our read is simple. This is a race to build habits. A student who spends a year writing notes, summaries and code inside one AI tool is less likely to switch when the bill arrives. MediaNama made a similar point about the Jio deal: bundle enough storage and backups, and users tend to stay.
For founders, there are two takeaways. If you’re building for students, you’ll be compared with “free for a year” from companies that can afford it. And if you’re a student founder, this is free runway: AI tools, cloud credits and developer software that would otherwise eat into a first-time founder’s thin budget.
The effect reaches past AI. D2C brands and early-stage consumer startups chasing students in Tier 1 cities are now selling to a generation that’s getting used to premium products at near-zero prices. That makes the first full price tag a harder sell.
The rest of your ID stack
Music. Spotify Premium Student costs Rs 69 a month in India, against Rs 139 for the standard plan, according to Buddy4Study’s student discount guide. Apple Music’s student plan also costs Rs 69 after a July 2026 hike from Rs 59, and it includes Apple TV at no extra charge. YouTube runs student plans in India as well, but prices have shifted over the years, so check the live price before you sign up.
Flights. IndiGo’s Student Fare gives up to 10% off the base fare on domestic flights booked through its website or app. You also get 10 kg of extra check-in baggage (25 kg total, in one piece) and no change fee. It applies to Saver fares only, and your travel date must fall more than seven days after booking.
Coding. GitHub’s Student Developer Pack is free for verified students aged 13 and above who are enrolled in a degree or diploma course. Copilot access moved to a new Copilot Student plan on March 12, 2026, which GitHub says doesn’t match the full Copilot Pro feature set. GitHub’s documentation also says new student plan sign-ups have been temporarily paused since April 20, 2026, so check the current status before you plan around it.
Laptops and phones. Apple and Samsung both run education pricing. Discounts vary by product and institution, so compare the official education store against ordinary retailer sales before you buy.

- Apply for GitHub’s Student Developer Pack, but confirm whether Copilot student sign-ups have reopened before counting on them.
- Choose Spotify or Apple Music at Rs 69 a month, and book IndiGo student fares at least a week before you fly.
