SUMMARY
- Airtel’s Rs 200 OTT top-up includes YouTube Premium, 30GB data and 28 days validity. It’s a paid add-on, not a free plan.
- Recharge first, then open Airtel Thanks, go to Rewards & OTTs and tap claim. It doesn’t activate automatically.
- Standalone YouTube Premium is around Rs 149 a month, so the pack suits people who’ll also use the extra data and OTT apps.
If you’ve seen “free YouTube Premium for Airtel prepaid users” in your feed, you’ve seen a good hook and a slightly misleading one.
What Airtel actually announced on 23 October is a Rs 200 OTT top-up that now includes YouTube Premium. You pay for the pack, then claim the subscription inside the Airtel app. Here’s what’s in it, what it really costs, and how to claim it.
What Airtel actually launched
Airtel has partnered with YouTube to add Premium to its Rs 200 OTT top-up for prepaid customers. The pack comes with 30GB of extra data and 28 days of validity.
YouTube Premium here means ad-free viewing, including Shorts, plus background play, offline downloads and YouTube Music Premium, subject to terms and conditions. The same top-up also carries Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 Premium, SonyLIV and more than 18 other OTT platforms, according to Airtel.
The Rs 200 catch
Here’s the part the “free” headlines skip. This is an add-on, not a plan. It has no calling or SMS benefits, so you need an active Airtel prepaid plan underneath it.
BusinessToday’s example makes the maths clear: if your current plan costs Rs 799, you’d pay another Rs 200 and your total becomes Rs 999.
So the offer is “free” only in the sense that YouTube Premium isn’t billed separately. You’re paying for the whole bundle.

Is Rs 200 worth it?
YouTube Premium’s individual plan costs around Rs 149 a month in India, according to recent reports. If that’s all you want, buying directly is roughly Rs 51 cheaper.
The pack makes more sense if you’d use the extra 30GB and the OTT apps too. Picture someone who already pays for Premium, streams on mobile and runs out of data before the month ends. For them, one Rs 200 pack covering all three is tidier than three separate bills.
Read each OTT app’s terms in the Airtel app before you count on them.
How to claim YouTube Premium on Airtel
It doesn’t switch on automatically. After you recharge, you have to claim it yourself.
- Recharge your Airtel prepaid number with the Rs 200 entertainment top-up.
- Open the Airtel Thanks app or Airtel’s prepaid plans website.
- Go to the Rewards & OTTs section.
- Find YouTube Premium and tap claim.

Do it on day one. Digit’s guide advises claiming right away because the benefit shares the pack’s 28-day validity. When the 28 days end, you’ll need to buy the top-up again and reclaim.

Why Airtel and Jio keep bundling
This isn’t Airtel’s first perk drop. Its Adobe Express Premium offer gives 12 months to prepaid, postpaid, broadband and DTH customers, and Adobe’s help page says it can be activated until 28 January 2027. That one needs no top-up.
Jio plays the same game. Its Rs 200 OTT Pass went live on 27 May 2026 and also needs an active base plan. BusinessToday reports that Jio’s Rs 500 prepaid plan and Rs 200 data voucher carried YouTube Premium in July.
Our read: Airtel isn’t really selling YouTube. It’s selling a reason to add Rs 200 to your recharge. For founders and marketers, that’s the lesson. “Free” earns the click, but the fine print decides whether people trust you afterwards. A catch you state upfront beats one customers find on their own.
The short version
If you only remember three things:
- Treat it as a Rs 200 entertainment add-on, not a freebie.
- Claim it the day you recharge, since reports say validity runs with the pack.
- Renew only if you’ll use the data and OTT apps. Otherwise a direct plan costs less.

FAQs
Is YouTube Premium really free with Airtel?
Not quite. YouTube Premium comes bundled with Airtel’s Rs 200 OTT top-up, which also gives 30GB of data. You pay for the pack and still need an active base plan.
How do I claim it?
Recharge with the Rs 200 top-up, open the Airtel Thanks app or Airtel’s prepaid plans website, go to Rewards & OTTs, find YouTube Premium and tap claim. It doesn’t activate on its own.
How long does the offer last?
The entertainment benefits run for 28 days, matching the top-up’s validity. When it ends, you need to buy the top-up again and reclaim YouTube Premium to keep using it.
Does it include YouTube Music?
Yes. As Airtel describes it, the bundle includes YouTube Music Premium alongside ad-free YouTube, including Shorts, background play and offline downloads, subject to terms and conditions.
Does the Rs 200 pack replace my regular recharge?
No. It’s an add-on with no calling or SMS benefits, so you need an active Airtel prepaid plan as well. The Rs 200 comes on top of whatever you already pay.
Is it cheaper than buying YouTube Premium directly?
Not if you only want YouTube Premium. The individual plan is around Rs 149 a month, so the pack costs about Rs 51 more. It pays off if you’d use the data and OTT apps.
