SUMMARY
- Try AI tools before your next hire: 25 picks across research, code, sales, design, support and ops, including Indian-built Sarvam, Bhashini and Haptik.
- Start with just three: one AI assistant, one design tool and one automation tool. Add more only when a task keeps repeating.
- Rupee pricing and free offers keep changing, so confirm the current price in the app, and hire anyway when a job needs judgment or accountability.
Before you write the next job description, ask one question: could a tool do the first draft of this work? That’s the idea behind this guide to AI tools for startups India’s founders can try before they open a job post.
To be clear, this isn’t a list of tools that replace people. Most of them delay a hire, or make your first hire more productive. And plenty of jobs, from closing a large customer to owning a product, still need a human who’s accountable.
How we picked these 25
We haven’t tested every tool ourselves. We picked by job, checked each one against vendor pages and independent reviews, and kept Indian context in view: rupee billing, WhatsApp, and Indian languages. Where a price or offer is unclear or keeps changing, we say so.
If 25 feels like a lot, it is. Our suggestion is to start with three: one AI assistant (ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini), one design tool (Canva AI) and one automation tool (Zapier). Use them for a month. Add another only when you catch yourself doing the same task for the third time.

| The job you were about to hire for | Try this first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Researcher or writer | ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini | General drafting, research and summaries |
| Developer | Cursor or GitHub Copilot | Code suggestions and debugging |
| Salesperson | HubSpot AI or Zoho Zia | CRM, lead scoring and follow-ups |
| Designer | Canva AI | Marketing assets without a designer |
| Video or voice | Runway or ElevenLabs | Video editing and voice-overs |
| Support team | Haptik or Tidio | WhatsApp and chat answers |
| Operations | Zapier or Notion AI | Automation and documentation |
| Regional-language work | Sarvam AI or Bhashini | Indian-language text and speech |
Before you hire a researcher or writer
ChatGPT. The all-rounder for drafting, research and brainstorming, with the biggest set of add-on features. In India, the ₹399 Go plan accepts UPI and was built for price-sensitive users, and there’s a free tier too.
Claude. Reviewers rate it for long-document reasoning and writing quality, which suits investor memos, contracts and long customer research. It has a free tier, but rupee prices for paid plans differ by source, so check in the app.
Gemini. The natural pick if your team lives in Gmail, Docs and Sheets, since it plugs into Google Workspace. There’s a free tier for testing, and Google’s paid plans start at ₹399 a month in India.
Perplexity. An answer engine that cites its sources, which helps with market sizing, competitor checks and regulatory questions before an investor call. There’s a free tier, and Pro costs about $20 a month.
NotebookLM. Google’s document-based assistant. Load your pitch deck, customer interviews and market reports, then ask questions across all of them. Indian price guides list it as free.
Before you hire a developer
Cursor. An AI-first code editor that writes, debugs and explains code, popular for MVP work and refactors. It works best when you already have at least one engineer reviewing the output.
GitHub Copilot. Suggests whole functions inside the editor your team already uses, so there’s almost nothing new to learn.
Bubble. A no-code app builder. Bubble’s own guide positions it for founders who don’t write code and want to ship a first product.
Before you hire a salesperson
HubSpot AI. A CRM with AI features for pipeline management and outreach. The CRM has a free plan, though the AI features vary by tier.
Zoho Zia. The AI assistant inside Zoho’s apps, covering lead scoring, forecasts and plain-language reports. Zoho is India-headquartered, which can simplify data and billing questions.
Clay. Pulls lead and company data from many sources for outbound sales. Bubble’s guide points sales-led teams towards it.
Before you hire a designer or video editor
Canva AI. AI-assisted marketing assets from templates, aimed at founders who aren’t designers. There’s a free plan.
Midjourney. Image generation for brand visuals and pitch deck art. Plans start at around $10 a month.
Runway. AI video editing. One comparison lists a free plan with 125 credits.
ElevenLabs. Realistic voice-overs in several languages. Independent testers rate its Indian English as decent but say native Indian languages are weaker, so test your language before you commit.
Before you hire a support team
Haptik. A Jio Platforms company focused on WhatsApp-first conversational AI, with pricing based on monthly active users.
YourGPT. Built by Delta4 Infotech in Punjab, it runs AI agents across a website, WhatsApp and Instagram with a no-code builder. Most of what’s public about it comes from the company itself, so run a pilot first.
Tidio. AI chatbots plus live chat, useful for small teams that want common questions answered and leads captured.
Built for Indian languages
Sarvam AI. A Bengaluru startup building models and speech tools for Indian languages. It open-sourced its 30B and 105B models in February 2026, and guides rate its speech API highly for Hindi, Tamil and other languages.
Bhashini. A government-backed platform for translation and speech across all 22 scheduled Indian languages, and free for many use cases according to guides.
Before you hire an operations person
Notion AI. SOPs, onboarding guides and documents in one workspace, with a free plan to start.
Zapier. Connects the apps you already use and automates repeat tasks, with a free plan.
Activepieces. Workflow automation and AI agents. Its own pricing lists a free tier with 10 active flows.
ClickUp Brain. Turns plain-language notes into tasks and summarises project progress.
Granola. An AI meeting notetaker that doesn’t join the call as a bot, so clients and investors don’t see a third participant.
The rupee reality check
Prices and offers for AI plans in India have changed several times this year. Price guides currently list ChatGPT Go at ₹399 and Plus at ₹1,999 a month, and Google’s AI Plus at ₹399 and AI Pro at ₹1,950. Claude’s and Perplexity’s rupee pricing differ by source, and free promotions from telecom partners have closed or changed. Confirm the price in the app before you pay, and ask whether you can get a GST invoice if you’re claiming input credit.

| Plan | India price (per month) | Note |

When you should hire anyway
Hire when the work needs judgment, relationships or accountability. Closing an enterprise customer, owning product decisions and handling an angry user are all jobs where a mistake is expensive. AI drafts, a person decides. It’s also worth reviewing every tool’s data settings before you paste investor documents or customer data into it.

It depends on the job. Common starting picks are ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for writing and research, Canva AI for design, Zapier for automation, and Sarvam AI or Bhashini when Indian-language support matters.
Can AI tools replace hiring in a startup?
Mostly they delay hiring or make early hires more productive. They draft, summarise and automate well, but roles needing judgment, relationships and accountability still need people, so hire when the work demands it.
How much do AI tools cost in India?
Price guides list ChatGPT Go at ₹399 and Plus at ₹1,999 a month, and Google AI Plus at ₹399 and AI Pro at ₹1,950. Other tools vary, and offers change often, so confirm in the app.
Which AI tools support Indian languages?
Sarvam AI builds models and speech tools for Indian languages, and Bhashini covers all 22 scheduled languages. Global assistants are improving, but test your language and use case before paying.
Which three AI tools should a non-technical founder start with?
One AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, Canva AI for design, and Zapier for automation. Use them for a month, then add tools only when a task keeps repeating.
Are there free AI tools for startups?
Yes. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Canva, Zapier and Notion all have free plans or tiers, though limits apply. Free tiers are enough for testing, but heavier use usually needs a paid plan.
